• BVNM launches Anti-Drug Campaign on the occasion of Holi

• “Addiction is a social curse; participation of every section of society is essential to eliminate it”: Ghanshyam Dewangan

• Public awareness campaign begins with the message “Quit Addiction, Connect with Life”

Bhilai (Dewangan Times) : The Bhilai Varishth Nagarik Mahasangh (BVNM) has launched a “De-Addiction Campaign” with the objective of protecting society from the rising menace of substance abuse and building a healthy, aware, and empowered community. A seminar was organized on Saturday at Siyan Sadan, Vaishali Nagar, Bhilai, where office bearers and members of the Federation unanimously resolved to spread awareness against addiction.

Concern was expressed over the increasing trend of substance abuse during festivals like Holi. All senior members collectively pledged to eliminate addiction, obscenity, and social evils during this festive season.

BVNM President Ghanshyam Kumar Dewangan stated that addiction is a social curse and has become a serious issue, particularly affecting the character and future of youth. He highlighted that substance abuse is leading to a rise in crimes such as conflicts, violence, theft, and sexual offenses within society. He emphasized that where youth should hold books, skills, and dreams of a bright future, they are instead falling prey to addiction. Addiction is not merely a habit but a silent disease that gradually destroys life, family, health, and future. He further stressed that participation from all sections of society is essential to combat this issue, and the experience and guidance of senior citizens can play a significant role.

Speakers including Radheshyam Prasad, Gangacharan Purohit, Rajpal Singh Raghav, Chandrabhan Dinde, and Dhaneshwar Nirmal shared their views on the harmful effects of addiction on individuals, families, and society, and suggested important measures to curb it. Senior citizens also affirmed their commitment to lead by example.

Under this campaign, awareness will be spread through rallies, public interactions, group discussions, and awareness programs at various locations. Participants carried placards with powerful slogans such as “Quit Addiction, Connect with Life,” “Addiction is a disease; staying away is wisdom,” and “Drug-Free Society – Our Resolution.” Efforts will also be made to counsel addicted youth and seek support from de-addiction centers, experts, and psychiatrists.

On this occasion, Treasurer Dinesh Kumar Gupta and several senior citizens including Radheshyam Prasad, Dhaneshwar Kumar Nirmal, Makhanlal Tandon, Gangacharan Purohit, Rajpal Singh Raghav, Chandrabhan Dinde, Rameshchandra Batghare, Shankar Shende, Somaram Bhogade, D.A. Karmarkar, K.L. Ravabani, Ghanshyam Yadav, Joseph, Devendra Kumar Chauhan, M.L. Gopal, Ramadhar Verma, Surendra Rai, and others were present. The vote of thanks was delivered by Dinesh Kumar Gupta.

The Mahasangh appealed to the general public to stay away from addiction and contribute towards building a safe and healthy society.
