Seminar on Role of Industrial Engineers in Sustainability and Green Engineering Held

Bhilai (DJN). On the occasion of the 69th Foundation Day of the Indian Institution of Industrial Engineering (IIIE), the Bhilai Chapter organized a seminar on “The Role of Industrial Engineering Professionals in Sustainability and Green Engineering.” Former CEO of Bhilai Steel Plant, Vinod Kumar Arora, attended the programme as Chief Guest, while Vice Chairman Ghanshyam Kumar Dewangan presided over the session.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Arora stated that Industrial Engineering professionals play a vital role in translating sustainability and green engineering concepts into practical implementation. He appreciated the active initiatives undertaken by the IIIE Bhilai Chapter.

Delivering the keynote address, Mr. Dewangan said that green engineering goes beyond environmental protection and includes energy efficiency, waste reduction, optimal resource utilization, carbon emission reduction, and sustainable development. He highlighted the importance of Industrial Engineering tools such as Time and Motion Study, 5S, Six Sigma, Value Engineering, Process Optimization, Line Balancing, Recycling, and data-based decision making in achieving sustainability goals. He emphasized that IE professionals can contribute significantly in industries, urban bodies, service sectors, social development projects, women Self-Help Groups, small industries, and agriculture. The seminar also stressed the increased use of renewable energy sources like solar, wind, and hydropower to conserve natural resources for future generations.

Senior engineers K. K. Gupta, Pradeep Kumar Tiwari, Satyanath Sahukar, and Sushil Hariramani also shared their views. The programme was conducted by Honorary Secretary Avnish Dubey, and the vote of thanks was proposed by Treasurer Vivek Gupta. Mr. Arora was felicitated with a shawl and Shreephal for his contributions.

The event witnessed the presence of senior engineers and professionals from Bhilai Steel Plant and other industries, including Dr. Kantilal Vishwakarma, S. K. Dogra, K. K. Gupta, J. C. Ray, B. K. Saraf, Santosh Agrawal, R. L. Dhidhi, Mohammad Arif Khan, Satyanath Sahukar, Sushil Hariramani, N. Nageshwar Rao, Devendra Pal Singh Brar, along with engineer members and their families.
